Discourse is coming!

Randall, Alberto, and I met on Monday, August 31 to start the planning and development of the Discourse forum for Zakros. At the moment, we're thinking about starting with 2 public categories - Zakros Members and Museum Edition and one private channel for the Zakros team. Zakros Members will be a general channel for everyone on the Zakros mailing list to introduce themselves, chat, and note topics of interest to talk about. Museum Edition will be targeted to the audiences from History Under Siege (July 2026) and Citizen Historians (Dec. 2025), but everyone is invited.

At today's team meeting Nick transferred the domain from a Discourse domain to a Zakros domain at: forum.zakros.com - that we will send everyone invites to to join. Nick is also working on a single sign on so that when someone joins the forum, they will also sign up for the Zakros mailing list.

Our projected launch date is Sept. 22. Alberto is working on the design and I'll work on intro/welcome/descriptive texts. Around Sept. 12, we'll invite some external colleagues to test the platform until Sept. 17. Any fixes will be made and we'll start to seed the discussion with some content Sept 19-21 for the launch date of Sept. 22!
