The Navigation Change, simplified

Cohort Progress

In progress design of the Cohort Page. Had a good conversation with Randall about the usability of the contextual tool bar based off of this, as well as some of the social features and capabilities for a Cohort. Generally speaking, we are looking for ways to maximize the use and flexibility of the metadata within the platform and expand what can be done with it.

Some immediate notes on the next changes and updates based on this design:

1. Short blurb under Member names should come from the user account's metadata rather than a custom written title or text
2. Cohort menu items are being moved out of the contextual toolbar and into the page header. This way the contextual toolbar is always about what can be done, rather than navigational.
3. Still exploring and expanding threaded conversations and updates surfacing within the Cohort Screen.

Dashboard Progress

Updates view of the Dashboard. Here too we talked about how metadata can be better surfaced on this screen and some ideas and immediate improvements to this concept:

1. On the Top bar, add "OSS" or "Open Source Studio" name next to logo
2. The center feed will now be just for your own posts. To see Cohort Posts you go directly to the cohort through the navigation or through the surfaced activity on the right hand column. We are removing the "Created new to old.." sorting options (not needed), and revising the Social Activity and Updates spaces to act more like a flexible "Slack-like" panel that integrates social features
3. Announcements from the OSS team will now be designed as a scrolling banner for added visual interest.
