Logo Exploration

The Open Source Studio logo draws from Our World, the landmark international television broadcast transmitted on June 25, 1967. Connecting audiences across multiple continents in a single live transmission, Our World offered an early technological realization of Marshall McLuhan’s “global village”—a world increasingly connected through electronic media.

At the center of the identity is a reinterpretation of the original Our World emblem. Rather than reproducing the symbol unchanged, the figure-and-globe motif is duplicated and intersected, transforming the original mark into a Venn-like composition.

The overlapping circles create a visual third space: neither one world nor the other, but a shared territory produced through their intersection. This reflects the networked premise of 3SN and Open Source Studio, where creative practice emerges through exchange, collaboration, and the convergence of geographically distributed participants.

By repurposing a symbol associated with an early moment of global telecommunications, the logo situates Open Source Studio within a longer history of telematic art and networked culture. It carries the utopian aspiration of Our World forward while reframing connectivity as something participatory—an open space that is continuously constructed by the people within the network.

UI/UX Notes

1. While making this page I noticed that it'd be really great to be able to "reference-link" to images on the page. For example, when writing my question above, I would've liked to be able to just insert a short link to the image in the question so people can know for certain what I am talking about.
2. More styling options in the editor: change font sizes directly on the page, font color and text background color, etc..
3. Nav styling for the sidebar option should allow for a background fill color, and/or color & contrast responsivity to the page background. Without this, it's hard to work with pages of multiple colors and tones.
