Project 2026, AWS, and the next OSS Cohort
Zakros is developing the next phase of the Third Space Network—including an advanced AWS architecture for distributed performance, artistic collaboration, and practice-based research.
Beginning August 31, 2026, the 12-week project will unite artists, musicians, engineers, scholars, advisors, and technology partners. The first phase will be a discovery with two AWS vendors to establish the network’s technical and conceptual foundations, including real-time communication, spatial audio, broadcast delivery, recording, archiving, and new approaches to coordinating time across remote locations.
The next step, beginning on September on September 28, will be an OSS onboarding/orientation for a new Cohort of improvising musicians.
From October 5 through November 20, following cohort onboarding, participating artists will inhabit the network through sustained rehearsal and experimentation. Their experiences will help refine the platform while generating artistic and technical documentation through their individual OSS sites.
A parallel weekly series of public Telematic Workshops will explore distributed presence, latency, networked space, ensemble interaction, social broadcasting, and audience participation. Together, these activities will advance the Third Space Network and 3SNtv as both a performance environment, a shared platform for research, and a public channel for the viewing experience.
